COVER STORY: Small Town, Big Dream

Maz Rodriguez

Larry Fairley has built a first-class agency far away from the bright lights of the big city.

“Rest? I don’t have any time to rest,” says Larry Fairley, laughing at the thought.

Fairley, the founder and CEO of Marketing Resource Solutions (MRS), a North Carolina-based full-service ad agency, really doesn’t have any time for rest. Over Labor Day weekend, he and the MRS team traveled to Miami Gardens for the Orange Blossom Classic, the informal “Black National Championship” football game that made a comeback this year after a 43-year hiatus. MRS went down to support their long-time client Denny’s—title sponsor of the game—as the company’s official experiential activation partner. With hardly any time to catch up, Fairley is now readying the team for the annual Tom Joyner Foundation Fantastic Voyage due to embark in November.

From Concept to Creation

For anyone who has known Fairley at any point in his life, the fact that he has owned and operated a successful full-service ad agency for more than 20 years comes as no surprise. After all, he’s someone who used to wake up in the middle of the night as a child dreaming of his own business. But turning this dream into a reality has been no easy feat.

Read the rest of Larry’s journey in the world of advertising and experiential marketing in our Fall 2021 issue. You don’t have it? Well, you can get by subscribing to MBE magazine.
