Dr. Shanté Williams: From Healthcare Researcher to Global Healthcare Investor

Tanya Isley

Just a few years ago, Dr. Shanté Williams was a clinical researcher developing chemotherapy drugs that would potentially prevent the spread of malignant brain tumors. These days, she invests in startups that seek to solve healthcare access and disparity issues in urban and rural communities.

Dr. Williams is the co-founder, CEO, and managing partner of Black Pearl Global Investments (Black Pearl Global), a $25 million venture capital firm in Charlotte, North Carolina, that invests in dental care, telemedicine, and manufacturing startups. The firm focuses on partnering with companies that “strive to improve the health of its citizens” and making investments that “create long-term sustainable growth both locally and globally.”
